SLUG Meetings & Talks

As well as other events, SLUG holds meetings on the last Friday of each month. These meetings present talks on various topics, aimed at both experienced and new Linux users. See below for information on upcoming meetings, presenting talks at SLUG and the talk archives.

Meeting Schedule

Meeting Format

SLUG meetings follow a standard meeting format with a common first half, and then dividing after the break. This is to provide 2 streams of content catering to both new and experienced Linux users.

The standard meeting agenda is:

6:30pm: Doors Open
6:45pm: The Usual Suspects
Introduction to SLUG, Q+A, "What has Linux done for/to me lately?", SLUG News & Discussion
7:15pm: General Interest talk.
The General Interest talks are designed to be of an intermediate level. Previous topics have included:
  • SLUG Forum: "Package Management Systems comparison"
  • Conrad Parker: Sweep
  • Adrian van den Dries: Zope
8:00pm: Break
Refreshments in the foyer, for a small covering charge.
8:20pm: Split into two groups for:
  • Technical Talk: In Depth talk. Previous topics have included:
  • SLUGlets: quick talks/demos and discussion of Linux and Free Software
Dinner
Dinner at Spice Boys (Indian), $20 per head.
